I don’t know when I’ve ever had such trouble ordering a new knitting book. There were snafus with both Amazon and with the German postal service, but finally, FINALLY, Adventures in Mochimochi Land, the book I’d ordered over a month ago, arrived at my doorstep last week. I lost no time in reading all the cute/absurd stories about this imaginary knit world and savoring the amazing knit-illustrations. Then I set to work making my first project, the Smallish Sun.

(That’s my knit sun in front of a backdrop out of the book -if you can’t tell.)

My sun has slightly sad eyes. I think he feels a bit lonely and exhausted from all his hard work, day after day up in the sky without a break. My baby son and I have already been giving Smallish Sun extra cuttles to try and cheer him up.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to make a Rainbow Bird next.

Mochimochi Land is such a quirky, fantasy-inspiring knitting world, and I’m so glad it exists. Furthermore, I love the idea of a combination story and pattern book. It’s the kind of thing that I, in my wildest dreams, hope to write some day. In sum, this book is the most exciting knitting purchase I’ve made in a long time.

What about you?

A great yarn? A book? A beautiful pattern? Quirky stitch markers? The right knitting purchase can really make your heart jump for joy.
