If you prefer to make your Christmas gifts rather than buy them, but if, like me, you aren’t quite together enough to start Christmas gift knitting back in September, than this post is for you. Now that December has started and the countdown clock to Christmas is ticking, you need some quick-knit gift ideas that are still special, beautiful and fun. Here are a couple great ideas I found that should only take a couple hours tops to knit.

(All patterns are free thanks to the amazing generosity of some seriously talented knitting designers out there. Except for the patterns from Yarn Birdy that I mention, the links will take you to the ravelry pattern pages. Most of the photos are copyright of the designers)

For your pregnant friend, or your friend’s new baby

Sweet Saartje’s Bootees by Saartje de Bruijn

The Cutest Newborn Sweater, Baby Sophisticate by Linden Down (I made this for my own newborn last year. That’s him modeling it in the photo.)

For a 5-9 month old baby whom you love:

Doggy Baby Rattle by Yarn Birdy (my son adored this toy at this age)

Lil’ Apple Hat by Iryna Boehland (because how cute is that?)

For a wiggly and adorable 1-2 year old:

Two seam Cube by Clare Doornbos, (so s/he can practice stacking, and knocking down)

Magic Loop Teddy by Julie Tarsha (to cuddle with at nap time)

For a 4-9 year old niece who’s obsessed with cute things:

Wow Meow Cat Ears by Emily Ivey (I bet she’ll wear them everywhere)

One or more tiny Hamsterbeans by Emily Stoneking (eep!)

For a 4-9 year old jokester nephew:

Legs the Penguin by Chemknits (The perfect combination of cute and bizarre)

Friendly Frog Finger Puppet by Yarn Birdy (He’ll love “rrrr-bit”-ing around with this on his hand)

For a teenage cousin who is equal parts style conscious and original:

The Big Hat by Davina Choy (Thick yarn and a fat pompom)

Simple Chunky Mittens by Marla Holt (They totally work for guys and girls)

For a busy sister you love and admire:

Fancy Mug Cozy by Kirsten Hipsky (to make her coffee breaks a little more special)

Spa Day Face Cloth by Anne Mancine (for a spa day at home)

For a husband or partner who has everything he needs, but whose heart would melt at a handmade gift from the one he loves:

Barley by TinCan Knits (A special hat for the most special person in your life)

Love you Forever Hearts by Tanis Lavallee (Because it’s true)
