Holiday Plans and Links to Knit

I made Yulia the Skating Doll nearly 2 years ago, but she’s still the cutest!

It’s the big Christmas week, and how are your next few days looking? Mine will be filled with family, peaceful afternoons in front of the Christmas tree, and a long long trans-atlantic flight that is totally worth it because of the wonderful people and places that will greet me on the other side. Of course, I will be knitting too. Besides my final Christmas gifts, and my design work, I snagged the pattern for this project from Tin Can Knits on the day it was free (they’re still having their 12 Days of Christmas promotion so check them out to see if your favorite pattern comes up free) and I think it looks lovely, fun, practical, and like it won’t take ages… so I plan to knit up a couple for some friends and family members with cold feet.

I will, however, be taking a bit of time away from the blog. I will be around on instagram though, so come say hello! My hope is to check in and show off some of my latest finished objects some time in the days before New Years, but even if the holiday/family fun is too hard to tear myself away from, I’ll definitely be back with energy at the beginning of January. 2016 will be an exciting year for Yarn Birdy, with lots of new toy patterns, a blog overhaul and more.

Meanwhile:

– If you’re tree is still in need of more hand-made ornaments, here are some cute, free knitting and crochet ornament patterns from Hands Occupied.

– So simple and clever, knit hats with duplicate stitch initials. I can’t decide who I most want to make one for. Maybe myself? Free pattern from Purl Soho.

– This beautiful shawl from Knitted Bliss is on my January knit-list, along with this stunning cardigan (those cables!!!) from Gift of Knitting

– I stumbled across these knit farm animals on the blog Knitionary the other day, and I’m totally inspired! I’m putting this idea on my list for when my son is a couple years older.
